Also, I've never known anyone who articulated your point here who could explain to me the difference inherent in the distinction you are making. The fact is that "Faith is trust, fidelity, and dependence on Christ." is itself a doctrine. A doctrine that I think is basically correct. The question is, trust in what? Responding with, "Trust in Christ." only shifts the goal post. In other words, instead of defining trust, now you have have to define the term "Christ". I'd love to see you do that without diving head first into more doctrine. See the problem?

While I agree, he has some serious issues like not being able to understand that one cannot have faith in God if one does not even believe that God exists. Some real fundamental problems there.

Doctrines are indispensable, but they are not God; they can never contain Him. Knowing the doctrines is not the same as knowing the living God.

When faith collapses into doctrinal correctness, the door to God effectively closes. Religion becomes a matter of mastering propositions rather than receiving the Spirit. In this sense, certain strands of Protestantism drift towards a rule‑based posture: faith becomes "getting the doctrines right," and divine encounter is replaced by intellectual compliance. But the Holy Spirit is not confined to doctrinal systems. He speaks, disrupts, and calls—always exceeding the formulas meant to secure Him.

You either have Justice or you don't. Likewise God either Loves His children or He does not (God is our Father and He Loves us, and He wants us to Love Him! And we do!)

Love, Justice, Patience, Sacrifice are things we grow to understand about God. So many other things too. It would be so sad for someone to not see this. These things are real! We can understand these things about Him because He died for us. There are so many cool posts in this thread made by Clete, JudgeRightly and others. We don't all know each other but we can all tell you that our relationship with Jesus is real! What could possibly ever be more cool than that?

Doctrines are merely truth claims. They are no different than any other truth claim except that they are theological in nature. Any and every theological truth is a doctrine, by definition, including every theological proposition you have made in this post. To say that we are not to focus on doctrine is to say that we are not to make any claims about God. It's as self-defeating as anything anyone could say or think.

The fact is that the teaching, "God exists" is a doctrine. If one desires to be saved one MUST believe that it is the truth.

The statement "He (God) is the Creator of all things and He is holy, perfect and just." is a doctrine that, if one desires to be saved, must be excepted as truth.

The teaching that, "We have, by doing evil things, rebelled against God." is a doctrine that if rejected, will condemn the unbeliever to an eternal Hell.

The claim that, "We, having rebelled against the God who gave us life, deserve death." is a doctrinal statement about the nature of God and the nature of our rebellion which must be accepted as truth or else the entire gospel itself crumbles into incoherent nonsense.

The statements, "God, being unwilling that all should perish, provided for Himself a propitiation (an atoning sacrifice) by becoming a man whom we call Jesus Christ and who is God Himself become flesh." and "Jesus, being Himself innocent of any sin, willingly bore the sins of the world and died on our behalf. Jesus rose from the dead." are the central claims of the Christian faith. Whoever rejects it as false has removed themselves from the category of "Christian".

And finally, the transparently biblical teaching of the Apostle Paul, that "If you confess with you mouth, the Lord Jesus Christ (i.e. acknowledge your need of a savior and that He is that Savior) and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, YOU WILL BE SAVED." is what distinguishes those who actually believe from those who are merely giving lip service to these doctrines.

In short, these doctrines already encompass the concern you are voicing and so your objection is self-defeating in at least two different ways.

Luther disagreed with Karlstadt on the Lord's Supper, images, liturgy, and the pace of reform. He disagreed with Melanchthon on free will, the law, the sacraments, and the role of reason. The conflict between Gnesio‑Lutherans vs. Philippists evolved into a full‑blown civil war inside Lutheranism.

Sola Scriptura guarantees interpretive diversity, because Scripture is not a commentary on itself. It contains no inspired hermeneutical manual. These require interpretive decisions: law and gospel, wisdom and apocalyptic, narrative and poetry. Some read Scripture through a historical‑critical lens, some through a confessional‑dogmatic lens, some through a pietistic or charismatic lens, and some through a sacramental‑liturgical lens. Sola Scriptura does not adjudicate between these.

Human reason and experience inevitably enter the process. Even Luther admitted this when he said: "Scripture is clear, but not to us." What he means is that clarity is in the text, but the interpreter is clouded. Without a magisterium, the "final authority" becomes the interpreter. This is why Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anabaptism, and later evangelicalism all diverged despite claiming the same principle.

The irony is that Lutherans appeal to Scripture alone, but in reality they rely on confessions. Confessional Lutheranism insists that the Bible is the only norm, while the Confessions are the correct interpretation of the Bible. But this only shifts the problem: Who interprets the Confessions? Flood myths are widespread across the world and typically express the primordial fear that chaos might engulf the ordered world. The sea functions as a traditional symbol of chaos, as seen in the Gospel account of Jesus stilling the storm on the Sea of Galilee.

Ancient peoples lacked any notion of fixed natural laws; they believed that cosmic order depended on the ongoing favour of the gods. Hence the Aztecs offered sacrifices to ensure that the gods remained benevolent and that the sun would rise again. Luther disagreed with Karlstadt on the Lord's Supper, images, liturgy, and the pace of reform. He disagreed with Melanchthon on free will, the law, the sacraments, and the role of reason. The conflict between Gnesio‑Lutherans vs. Philippists evolved into a full‑blown civil war inside Lutheranism.
What does this prove? That there is a problem with the scripture? Of course not. The problem is always with men/women.
Sola Scriptura guarantees interpretive diversity, because Scripture is not a commentary on itself. It contains no inspired hermeneutical manual. These require interpretive decisions: law and gospel, wisdom and apocalyptic, narrative and poetry. Some read Scripture through a historical‑critical lens, some through a confessional‑dogmatic lens, some through a pietistic or charismatic lens, and some through a sacramental‑liturgical lens. Sola Scriptura does not adjudicate between these.
No intelligent Christian believes "Sola Scriptura" the way that you seem to be defining it. Again, it appears that you have created a straw-man so that you could have the great pleasure of shoving it to the ground.
Human reason and experience inevitably enter the process. Even Luther admitted this when he said: "Scripture is clear, but not to us." What he means is that clarity is in the text, but the interpreter is clouded. Without a magisterium, the "final authority" becomes the interpreter. This is why Lutheranism, Calvinism, Anabaptism, and later evangelicalism all diverged despite claiming the same principle.
And just who anoints this magisterium? You?

Having a central authority made of MEN does NOT solve your problem in the slightest. It simply moves it one step back.
The irony is that Lutherans appeal to Scripture alone, but in reality they rely on confessions. Confessional Lutheranism insists that the Bible is the only norm, while the Confessions are the correct interpretation of the Bible. But this only shifts the problem: Who interprets the Confessions? Who decides what counts as "confessional"? Who adjudicates new doctrinal questions not addressed in the 16th century?
Again, who really cares what Lutherans think? Are they the standard by which we judge all things? NO! They are not.

God is the final judge of all doctrinal matters and He has given us His Word to establish what is correct and what is not. We have the instruction manual that is GOD BREATHED.
Thus the disagreements continue. Lutheranism claims Scripture alone, but in practice it operates with a thin, rationalized hermeneutic that suppresses the supernatural world of the Bible. The result is a tradition that claims unity in Scripture but lives in interpretive diversity.

Ancient peoples lacked any notion of fixed natural laws; they believed that cosmic order depended on the ongoing favour of the gods. Hence the Aztecs offered sacrifices to ensure that the gods remained benevolent and that the sun would rise again. The underlying logic of the Flood myth is the fear that disorder will erupt when humanity violates divine commands. It carries a warning, one that remains worth taking seriously even today.
An unsupported claim at best. The BIBLE is God's Word and IT described a worldwide flood that God used to JUDGE the world. It is a warning of a future worldwide judgement that you appear to mock.

It is clear that scripture cannot be fully understood by the natural man. But that does not mean that we need a group of men (and/or women) to make it clear to us. Many of those men (and/or women) are posers and are not even saved themselves.
