I look forward to GFR7's armchair quarterbacking on this case, telling us all how he would have handled the situation

As opposed to "people" in general, police officers are highly trained in dealing with various situations and know that they must abide by the law before using deadly force.

Your link doesn't work.

In California, I have been pulled over for not using a turn single and having a tail light out. Also, for speeding. Without incident.

Actually there was an "incident" Sandy: you violated the traffic codes in the city or county in CA that you were driving in.

Do you believe that there shouldn't be ordinances against speeding or having proper functioning lights on your vehicle Sandy?

Wyoming and Nebraska are worse. Years ago, my older cousin was pulled over and given a ticket for going 58 in a 55. Without incident.

In both Wyoming and Nebraska? (Yet another "I knew a guy who knew a guy" story).

Everyone is entitled to handle these situations to their choosing, however, I would rather deal with an injustice in the courtroom.

Poor Sandy, yet another one of society's victims.

Quit trolling already. There wasn't an incident because my responses were cooperative.

I never once indicated I shouldn't have been pulled over.

Was Deven Guilford a victim of an injustice for being pulled over for a traffic infraction in MI?

Only to someone who is either illiterate or intentionally dishonest. Which are you?

Pulling him over was not an injustice. Put down the doughnut and take a course in comprehensive reading.

I see I've received a warning for questioning your use of the word "injustice".

Have a nice day Sandy.

Free to not make it home to the house you still live with your parents in, so you can go to high school the next day.

We're inured to this now. Conditioned to it.

You think "tyrants" need to take guns away from people who support them?

I have rethought my position on this case a bit. Taking the different sources in addition to the OP, here is what I have come up with.

1. Was the reason for the traffic stop silly? Sure, I don't think it was worth pulling the kid over for but if it is an infraction in the state, it is what it is.

2. It was clear from the beginning the driver was not going to go with the flow. How did he think it was going to go?
Officer: License, registration, and proof of insurance please.
Driver: No.
Officer: Okay, have a great night sir. *returns to car and drives away*

A personal aside, when I get pulled over. It's a yes sir, no sir type of exchange. If I screwed up, I will take my strikes and move on. I don't want to be here any longer than I need to be and I certainly do not want to confront the officer over something as reasonable (in my opinion) as asking for my information. If I want to fight the infraction itself, I believe there is a better place for it.

3. When he pulled the driver out of the car, this was a bit of a "uh oh" moment for me. It is a judgement call on the part of the officer and I believe he is needless escalating.

4. When the driver charged the officer after he gets up, all bets are off. If the driver managed to get the firearm from the officer during the scrap, it could be an entirely different type of obituary.

All in all, it was a tragedy. But, at the same time, I cannot help but to think a few, simple acts compliance and this would not even be close to newsworthy.

Why didn't the cop wait for backup to arrive before pulling him out of the car?

What do you mean?

Just thinking that there's less and less left that'd really enrage people. At least for the right reasons. (We seem awfully good at getting worked up for the wrong ones.)

Kids shot by cops. We do nothing. Or we blame the kids.

Abuses of power. Violence. Brutality. We do nothing. Or keep blaming the victims.

We're pushed around and told to hush and take it. We're bullied and told to show the bullies "respect," as though it's required, not earned. We're told to be afraid, or respond in automatic protective fear, to lick the hand lest it beat or shoot or tase us.

And we're "free."

How about that.

In regards to the OP, all he had to do was show him his license and registration. That's it. It would have all been defused and nothing would have happened.
