I highly doubt it. Look, when was there no religion of any kind....that is exactly when I'm referring to...before your type found a way to control people and profit from it....exactly then!!!

It is certainly clear that religion has caused great suffering throughout history. Christians tortured Jews to get them to convert. Christians fought, burned and otherwise killed other Christians who did not believe as they did. Christians used the Bible as a reason for slavery. Christians and Muslims killed each other in the Crusades. And now wack-job Muslims attack everyone in the name of their particular deity.
Not to say that without religion all would be hunky dory. There is always the fear and hatred of The Other that drives humans. We are tribal, its how we evolved.

Excellent point, tribalism...the fear of the other...and religion just accentuated it, made it even worse

Replace 'Christians' with 'papists' and you're good to go.
