Trump pushes ban on 'bump stocks' — devices that turn weapons into 'machine guns'
President Donald Trump announced that he wants the Justice Department to issue regulations that would declare so-called bump stocks illegal.

This is low hanging fruit since not even the NRA likes these things. They are a gimmick that only gives you an advantage if you're shooting fish in a barrel like the Las Vegas shooter or trying to see how fast you can waste ammo at the range.
But the seal has been broken. Perhaps we can at least get some accountability on enforcing the laws we already have as well.

I have no problem banning or restricting "bumb" stocks, you called them? Anyway, I've heard they're cumbersome and don't work the best for aiming and hitting a target.

So what kind of a gun would it be alright for that Cruz guy to have?

People act like a different gun would have been better.....bump stock or not, the guy was just walking through a school and shooting.

It makes me angry. My granddaughter's high school was locked down today with a shooter threat, and another one came over her phone this evening. My daughter called the police and they came out, but I don't think they can trace it. I know lots of false threats are going around right now, but what a way to live. At least her school is surrounded by high fencing and has two armed cops stationed there every day. And there is only the one entrance. All schools need to have armed guards.....we guard our money better than we do our kids. :madmad:

It's a start. There's really no point in a civilian having those things, unless it's to cause mass casualties.

My thought is it's smarter to identify people who shouldn't have them. But I think the NRA is aware that they need to do something to abate the firestorm.

Even Dallas isn't taking it well.

Mayor pro tem Dwaine Caraway:
"I am saying to the NRA, reconsider yourselves coming to Dallas," Caraway said. "There will be marches and demonstrations should they come to Dallas and we, Dallas, will be the ones that have to bear the cost and the responsibility and to protect the citizens."

You can make one at home or you can bump fire without one.

And we've seen that the existing laws aren't being enforced. The Texas Church shooter shouldn't have been able to buy the rifle he had due to the crimes he committed in the Air Force. But the Air Force didn't report that to the system. People will be resistant to new laws if they don't perceive there being enforcement.

Or double down. The whole industry goes in fear cycles. Mass shooting, talk about gun control, everybody buys a bunch more guns before they're banned. Repeat as needed. Bump stocks have gone from $200 to $1,000.

I think they should go to Dallas then. Violent mobs attacking them would kind of make their point.
