Anna, in a police state the police control everything...even what you are allowed to say. Here, we just want people to show their license if they want the privilege of driving a car. This fear mongering the libs are promoting by such statements is why our policemen are being targeted...shot down just because they are cops.

"Dangerous job is dangerous" excuses nothing by way of police abuse of power. You seem to think a voluntary job with some risks entitles cops to abuse their authority.

Sit, Boo-Boo, sit.

Nope, I don't think that at all, and it's actually quite rare.

Down, Do-Do, down.

Yet you find every excuse you can not to criticize the police or call them out for brutality.

I get it: "Cops good" seems to be your motto, and "uniform=respect" is how you look at them. Maybe it's a generational thing, or something.

Maybe it is. When I listened to that boy and that guy in the gas station, I was ashamed for them. People have lost all respect for authority, and we're paying the price. You see it in how our children are being raised, and the fault for that does not lie with the cops. Just as the teachers have had their hands tied behind their backs, and can't control (nor are they allowed to control) the kids in school, the same is being done with law enforcement (by a bunch of do-gooders, I might add). The inmates will rule the asylum....

I think reports say, and the footage showed, the kid was tring to record the cop and the cop was recording on his cam. Too many kids these days think everything should be on social media and try to get a minute of fame. Sometimes that fame ends in death.

Eaton County, MI — It was announced this week that the officer who shot and killed 17-year-old Deven Guilford for flexing his rights this past February, will not be charged for any crimes.

Deven was traveling along the road and flashed his lights at an officer because his headlights were so bright that they nearly made Deven run off the road. He was then pulled over by Sgt. Frost of the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office, who stopped the young man for no other reason than the fact that he flashed his lights.

When Frost approached the car, Guilford explained that he was simply flashing his lights to be a polite driver, and let the officer know that his high beams were on so he didn’t cause an accident.

The officer began to get aggressive with Guilford when he was not immediately obedient and attempted to flex his rights during the traffic stop. Guilford refused to show the officer his license and registration because he had broken no laws and the officer had no reason to stop him.

Guilford also began recording the encounter with his cell phone and let the officer know that he was filming for his own safety. He then asked the officer if he was being detained and for what reason. He was told that he was being detained because he refused to comply with Frost and show him his ID. However, not showing his ID is a secondary offense, meaning the officer would actually need a real reason to pull him over to begin with.

On a power trip, Frost violently ripped Guilford out of the vehicle and forced him down to the ground. Guilford attempted to remain filming while he complied with the officer’s orders and moved to the ground. Sadly, Guilford was not moving fast enough for Frost, so he tased the young boy. At this time, both the body camera and the cell phone footage got cut off.

Off camera, Frost shot and killed the young boy. The known details are sparse because the killing happened out of the view of the dash-cam, and the body camera was turned off at that point. However, the officer claims that the young boy attacked him, so he “feared for his life” and killed him, firing 7 shots from his weapon.

We are all trying our best to navigate through a world in the grip of profound change.

Police, like the criminals they pursue, (and ourselves) have good underlying intentions. Perhaps in this case, the policeman's good intention may be to protect his life, serve his city and protect it from all crimes--real and perceived. Or maybe this particular policeman lives with a psychological issue (for example, he lives to make his mother proud of him).

In any case, this tragic and horrific occurrence does not surprise me in the least. It would only surprise me if the policeman were my best friend or the victim would be a friend or my own daughter.

THERE ARE ALOT OF STAGED CONFRONTATIONS ON YOUTUBE WITH THE AUTHORITIES.

How do you decide what is REAL ?

I can see that being a problem, trying to provoke or antagonize police to elicit a response, tailoring their actions to make it more explosive and video worthy for youtube. Those that do that should plainly see by now, it only ends bad or worse.

We'll never know, but he may have simply been trying to protect himself by recording the cop.

Obviously he was slow or thinking slow, he may have smoked some weed before or after practice. I don't know for sure that he was looking for a fight with a police officer, and I haven't seen/heard the girlfriend's story yet.

I've seen nothing from the girlfriend which would establish his intent.

The only thing I've seen is this:

MSP investigators interviewed Guilford's father and girlfriend, who both said he had been watching YouTube videos of police encounters with citizens. While he didn't express anti-police views, Lloyd's release said Guilford described the videos as examples of police violating citizens' rights.

Just saw this thread and went over the news reports.

Both the cop and the kid were itching for a fight. According to his family the kid had been obsessed with YouTube videos of police actions deemed to be excessive. That's why he pulled out his phone and was recording the whole thing. That's why he was acting as a narrator. In a way, the kid wanted a controversial interaction.

As the cop was walking up to the car you can hear him say to the dispatcher, "I pulled someone over for flashing their high beams, I guarantee I didn't have my brights on." Turns out the cop had pulled over several others for the same infraction. So the cop was looking forward to taking out his frustrations over the bright headlights on someone else.

When the kid says he's recording the interactions the cop calls for backup. According to the Eaton County press release

http://www.eatoncounty.org/images/D...ney/Press_Releases/Guilford_Press_Release.pdf

the cop thought the kid was a member of a militia group and was calling for his friends to help confront the cop. So the cop is already ratcheting up his possible response. In reality the kid was calling his girlfriend and asking her to bring his wallet with driver's license.

You can see in the video that the kid is face down on the pavement. At this point the cop is saying "put your hands behind your back, you're under arrest." Then the cop pulls out the taser and tases the kid. THe report says the taser didn't quite fully work--only one barb stuck in the kid's back--because the thing was fired too close to the kid's body. The kid then gets up, faces the cop, they start tangling and then the kid tries to runs off.

The report says that Deven was sitting on the cops hips/waist off the side of the road in the snow and raining blows onto the cops face when the cop started firing his gun. If you watch the video, there is about a 10-12 second time frame between the time Deven stands up and the time the first shot is fired.

The autopsy report says that all bullets followed a downward trajectory in Deven's body and were shot from "an intermediate range" except for the head shot which was done close enough to leave soot on Deven's head. How can all shots be traveling downward if Deven was sitting on the cop's waist?

When Deven was face down on the pavement and wouldn't put his hands behind him, why didn't the cop lay a knee in the middle of Deven's back, pull his hands back there and cuff him?

So many inconsistencies and question. What a tragedy.

I stand by my initial reaction when seeing the video, the cop went overboard and never tried to DE-ESCALATE as he is likely trained to do. Interesting about the pre-cursors leading to the 7 shots.
