and yet, the afghans resisted the soviets for years, the VC resisted the US for years, ISIS is nowhere near being defeated, etc, etc

i think Queetzle has this image of the militias facing the US military face to face and toe to toe

an AR-15 converted to full auto could probably bring down a drone

It would be a case of mad luck...The real ones fly too high for that. :plain:

If there ever was any such conflict in the U.S there is no doubt technology would be front and center in an effort to deny the other side whatever resources they can.

otherwise, research what the Finns did in WW2 when the rooskies rolled on them with tanks

What...You mean the Winter War, with the Molotov's? Not quite as easy to do today but suffice it to say, yes, there are ways to mobility kill (and eventually destroy) any tank. :chuckle:

A lot of people do...I get overwhelmed by how many people think this is a valid argument against the 2nd Amendment. :sigh:

I am not arguing against the 2nd Amendment, keep it there. I am just criticizing the ridiculous notion that taking up arms against the government/military is a good idea.

The concept itself is not ridiculous....What makes it ridiculous is if you do it ridiculously. :)

Whether or not it's a good idea depends on a lot of different circumstances. Personally, circumstances being what they are, I also would consider it a bad idea right now. In no way shape or form is it warranted IMHO and, like I stated before, any armed insurrection not (at minimum) backed by a state Legislative and Executive Branch will be labeled as "domestic terrorism" and be ground into dust by the Federal Government.

Those guys were on equal ground.

nope

the only reason the British military didn't bring its full force against the colonials was that they had a bit of distraction going on to the east and south

Yes, I'm sure we as citizens could beat an army that was equipped with guns from Walmart like us. But that isn't what we'd face, is it?

again, you're presuming an american miltia insurgency would restrict itself to "guns from Walmart"

you don't think the guys who are into this stuff are studying what's been working against the US military in Iraq and Afghanistan?

timothy mcveigh didn't use "guns from Walmart"

An advantage that the revolutionists had was the fact that the British had to come all the way across seas. Back then that wasn't so gracefully done. It took time, rations, and rest afterward before just going into war like today. And then there were problems like illness and being stuck at sea for months at a time.

My M4s are not for the Saint County Sherriff Police or Saint Charles City Police. :duh:

It is for that day comes where they are overstretched. And we pray it does not.

You seem to assume that civilians don't have military-grade weapons or can't get them.

Look at Ferguson. Look at the US/Mexico border.

What is that cliché again? Define "military grade". Did you mean explosive devices or something else?

The following items are used by US DoD personnel. But not that commercial brand. Ironically, the government model 1911A1 is no longer used by the government.

Point being only an absolute moron would believe they could face even a fraction of the American military with any sort of militia and be victorious.

The military is not a robot. They are citizens just the same and like the Civil War, they will split.

There is no such thing as 'military against civilians' in a constitutional republic. If it gets so bad that it becomes the case, then it doesn't really matter anyway. Guns will aid one in fleeing the country at that point.
