Are those the only two choices?
Why are those the only two choices?
I wasn't aware that everyone that didn't go to college went to prison.
About 75% of America's State prison inmates, almost 59% of Federal inmates, and 69% of local jail inmates did not complete high school (Harlow, 2003)

Of white males who graduated from college, only 1 percent were
incarcerated in 2000 (Raphael, 2004).

A few bars in the windows of these buildings and the numbers might be corrected.

Why don't we just change the name of High school to College?

The problem is, reality changed college to high school. Used to be, high school prepared you for jobs. Now, that's pretty much gone away. You need more than that to be able to get a good job.

I don't want to pay for other people's education.

We'll pay for it if people aren't educated. That's the rub. Produce enough under educated people with not enough unskilled labor to go around and it impacts everything else.

Hogwash.

Higher education is overrated.

That's a really underrated bar and grill. Fish Tacos to kill for. :chew: Which segues neatly back, if you're caught.

Let's take a look shall we?

If only we had free high school!
Wait, we do.

Also, you mix your samples here, above is the jails population that didn't finish high school, below you have college grads that are IN jail.
How bout the percentage of high school drops outs that are IN jail if you want to try to make a comparison.

ALSO;

You can make College free but how are you going to make everyone a white male and who are they going to date?

The correlative isn't being white, per se, it's having money. Kids who's parents have money will almost certainly finish high school. Kids who's parents are poor, regardless of color, are more likely not to finish high school.

No high school, no job. No job, no money. No money … welfare or criminal behavior to survive. In our culture everything is about the money.

So how to break the cycle of poor kids not getting educated and becoming criminals? First, lets make a good education available to them. Then let's incentivize them to take advantage of it. Maybe we could provide some of the perks that the wealthy kids get for staying in school and getting good grades. Then we could encourage employers to seek out disadvantaged kids who worked hard and stayed in school and good good grades, for employment. After all, they've shown themselves to be smart, tough, and motivated.

Some kids will still drop out. Some will still quit college. Some will still end up in jail no matter what we do. But just blaming them and doing nothing only makes a bad situation worse.

Just change the culture. Instead of pushing kids to take out huge debt and grants straight out of high school, have businesses pay for students to learn a trade for exchange of a work contract. A local hospital could pay for a student to get a LPN license, if the student agrees to work at the hospital for X amount of years afterwards, for example. The young person learns a trade, works a few years and then they can save up money to pay cash for university or college. The price of college would go down then, if all students paid cash. There wouldn't be unpaid loans and more need for bigger grants driving up the price of college tuition.

Or another solution, colleges can adopt this program from Alice Lloyd College. Many students graduate from that college with no debt.

WorkProgram

Someone's God forbid the President doesn't do any research and try to actually pioneer a new solution, let's just fall back on the ages old flawed tax and spend method.

hmmm... very odd... I'm not finding fault w/ a "more L than R" poster.. odd indeed

yeh, sounds good so far..

While some Americans would be quick to dismiss Canada as being too "socialist/communist" by US standards

- living longer,

- working less,

- better health,

- less debt,

...

- a lower national debt (AAA Moody rating)

!

assuming all this is true (and I do NOT since a lib cited it)

the reason why Canada is apparently doing better than the US is... ONE reason:

Obama is not in charge there

I don't want to pay for other people's education.

I already get forced to pay for the public school system which I don't use. Now college?

Pay for your own college.

I don't want to pay for foreign interventionism and the war on drugs, yet you support forcing me to pay for that...

And you complain about having to pay for people to be educated? oh the horror.

I'm not for welfare programs like this, but conservative priorities are off, IMO.

oh, so you would have us ignore ISIS b/c they are only killing people in foreign lands (US citizens, true... but in foreign lands..)

OK... If you were president, they (ISIS) would take note of that, and happily.

And promptly attack the US

Then it will be YOUR head they are after.

Pay for your own college.

yes, everyone should pay for his own college and his own whatever..

that's what's wrong w/ this country: we have been brainwashed to think that the gov is there to HELP us...

I think it was Ronald Reagan who said something like

One of the worst things you can hear is

We are from the government and we are here to help

we have forgotten how to help ourselves (and our own family members).

A mother is upset b/c her young daughter got pregnant, had a baby... "Heck, you can leave home, get your own place [taxpayer's expense]"

So this mother doesn't have to deal with "the problem"

or even if the daughter does NOT get pregnant.. "Hey, Daughter, I don't like the way you are acting, defying me and such... Go to college. The gov will pay for it... and I can go back to my [fill in the blanks] activities and do not have to deal w/ you anymore"

etc... etc...

notion(s)?

it has to do with freedom. College is not for everyone. Therefore, everyone should not have to pay for it. And again, it is also about government (redundancy alert) incompetence. Remember the scandal at the VA? I rest my case vis a vis government incompetence.

and here's probably the absolute worst consequence of "free" (as in taxpayer's pay for it... ha ha... since when did those 2 come to be equivalent with ea other?)

but anyway, the worst consequence is that the loony tunes who run government will influence the colleges to be... as loony tunes as they are... ie: teach that legalized abortion is a woman's "right" whereas the child has no right to live even though the Constitution (not taught anymore) says we have the "right to life, liberty..."

yeh...

We have gone far enough down the road of the government "helping people"

I see how even I have been brainwashed... to think more liberally than I... uh... well, than I naturally tend to think... I mean, we've been brainwashed for SOOO long by the liberals, we have a hard time seeing how our way of thinking is... too liberal.. hence the way I was (a few days ago) in favor of "free college" but when I THOUGHT about it...

but why did I EVER (me, Miss Republicanchick) why did I ever... have that kind of ... bad day? We are all being brainwashed.

Do you want your government run by billionaire donors?

And don't forget, the Citizen's United ruling allows monetary contributions to our politics from foreign nations as well.

If you cannot make the connection between corporate money and tyrannical economic rule, then there is no use talking with you further.

Well, I favor minarchism, which means a minimal fed that would only concern itself with national infrastructure, protecting borders and settling disputes between states... responsibilities like that. I'd like to see states have sovereignty over what goes on in their borders. If they can afford social programs, public education, war on drugs etc etc, then more power to them, they should certainly do it.

A large centralized bureaucracy that taxes everyone for programs they don't want to support and then dictates that each state must do what they want or can't do what it wants, is more or less fascism. All we do in this country is switch between two fascist regimes every 8 years, I'd like to find a way to escape that.

The Rs are far closer to what politicians should be than the Ds

D's these days are just socialists who don't want to admit it
